Hello skiers,
The weather person was right this morning. We arrived to find some blue sky along with strong winds. Winds were not so strong at the opening as to force closure of Summit Chair. A very moderate group of skiers and boarders waited in line for the lift to open. It opened at nine. Shortly after we were enjoying fresh tracks in D7. Others were making squiggles in Wolverine Bowl. Happily, we were able to made our own turns in snow that had just a hint of wind compaction in the Palisades area on our next run. Third ride up, Sunspot begged for our turns to create a work of art on its slope. A second trip down Sunspot, or to either side, we still found relatively untracked snow. No lines at any lift this morning. THAT THE WAY WE LIKE IT!
The line at Summit on a powder day?
Snow conditions varied from stiff wind pack that took a little more effort to enjoy, to six inches of soft wind whipped powder that made me smile. Many areas where small moguls were formed yesterday offered lovely powder that had drifted into the troughs. We even found very smooth slopes where the skis barely sunk into the pack. This snow was soft and creamy, a little like skiing in yogurt.
Making turns on South Face at Sherwood
I did hear plenty of yelps from skiers and boarders who were coming down from all over the mountain. I saw smiles on faces and did not hear a negative word from anyone. Keyhole slopes were a favorite this morning.
Tracks in Wolverine
First run down Wolverine
Upper Beaver, Estelle, High Travers, Scott, and Lakeview were closed today. Winds increased as the morning progressed until noon when Summit and Roundhouse were put on windhold. It is two o’clock in the afternoon and it is snowing lightly at my office along the Truckee River.
Locker Room Talk: Dennis was tired of the number of people who were always gathering around his locker. There were just too many people getting ready in the morning with lockers close to his. Dennis is pictured here near his new locker where he seems much happier and has more room to maneuver.
Brita Sigourney Retires
Long time champion freestyle skier, Brita Sigourney is retiring from freestyle skiing. Brita and her family have been long time Alpine Meadows patrons. Brita wrote the following note when she announced her retirement. I thought I would include for all Alpine skiers and boarders to read.
Brita
Enjoy your day,
Andy
I am not sure why your pictures will never open on my email. Could you please help me with this thank you.
Hi Patty. There is a known issue we have seen with photos not loading for email subscribers viewing the emails on an iPhone. We have have worked with some Apple engineers to try to identify the root cause of the issue and have had no good results. If you click the title of the report in the in the body of the email, it will transport you to the website and the pictures will load correctly.
I have not tried too hard to fix the issue beyond that as UA is primarily a website, as opposed to an email list. People that only look at the emails may not see the photos, but also miss out on comments and updated versions of the post. Thanks for enjoying UA Patty!
When I come out here to comment I see the pictures they just don’t open when I open my email from you
