One of my group of friends that were skiing today noticed this sign on a tree next to the summer road. It is located as you arrive at Standard Run. We all wondered when it was put up because none of us has noticed it before. We also wondered what the heck it meant. I have never seen a sign at Alpine Meadows with a pink diamond inside a blue square. The blue square indicates the run is an intermediate trail. What does a blue square with a pink diamond indicate?
Does anyone no the answer to this question? If not, take a guess and leave it in the comment section of his post.
I ran into a patrolman on my last run of the day and ask him when the sign was installed. He laughed and told me it has been there for at least a year and perhaps longer. He had no idea what it meant as the pink diamond was apparently put up by someone from the public with no explanation as to its meaning.
We did ski this morning under a light grey sky and enjoyed some rather nice groomed runs all over the mountain. Alpine Bowl, Bobby’s at Scott Chair, Outer Limit, Scotty’s Beam, and Twilight off Lakeview Chair, and the main groomed run at Sherwood. All the corduroy that we skied today was pretty good. The moguls in Yellow Trail, Pygmy Forest, and the side of Sunspot remain stiff but enjoyable.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
I am saying it’s for cancer breast cancer and a diamond it’s difficult not a black diamond, but a pink diamond

This would be a great time to point out that Casey Jones is a well known retired patroller from Alpine Meadows. His wife Tina is under treatment for breast cancer. Casey is currently running a GoFundMe just to make basic living expenses. It should not be like that in the US of A. I’ve donated and I hope you might choose to also. https://gofund.me/c099a671
P.S. This is just a coincidence that this happened to come up on this post…a fortunate coincidence.
Casey. Whether that is the correct explanation of the pink diamond or not, it is the one I accept.
Please give Tina a big hug from me. She is the best, and always in my thoughts and prayers. By the way,
I was scolded for using Patrolman in my blog instead of Patroller. My apologies to the female patrollers
who are just as awesome as their male compatriots.
Pink is a nurturing, playful, and nostalgic color that takes people back to their childhoods, according to the interwebs.
So the pink diamond means this is a fun and loving run that takes us back to our childhood.
So……..Alterra does care about us and is making meaningful improvements to Alpine !
The sign has been in that tree for around 6 years. Not sure when the diamond was put on it though, but definitely has been there the last few.
