It’s that time of year again. When Memorial Day hits, it’s is the unofficial start of the summer season. It’s also the traditional start of big sales on ski gear. Times are tough for many people, but not for everyone. Some of you have been able to keep working through these weird times, or otherwise have a stable income. The latter describes me, and I’ve been doing my best to keep some local businesses afloat. So we encourage you to go spend some money this weekend if you can.
Slant Skis Memorial Day Sale
If you’re a frequent reader of Unofficial Alpine, you know that we are huge fans of Slant Skis. We know that many of our readers have also become fans, as we have seen you on the hill. Slant Skis are built a mere 5 miles from Alpine Meadows. You can’t get much closer when it comes to a local company!
All skis at the Slant Skis website are on sale at 50% off through Monday. We advise not waiting until Monday, as supplies and sizes are limited for all models. My favorite model, the Blaze, is now selling at $475. Hopefully Josh remembers that I bought a pair at his last sale and has them set aside for me in the shop!
As a part of the Virtual Made In Tahoe festival this weekend, Josh will be offering some special deals on skis, including some demo models. That Flash Sale will be going on the Slant Skis Facebook page from 4:45-5:00PM, tomorrow, Saturday May 23rd. Yeah, it’s a “flash sale”, only 15 minutes to grab some special deals. Set your Siri reminders now.
Tahoe Sports Hub Memorial Day Sale
My favorite local shop, the Tahoe Sports Hub, located on West River Street in Truckee is also having their big Memorial Day Sale this weekend. Owners Rob and Wrenn Cavallo are amazing people that are huge supporters of many things in the Truckee and North Tahoe area.
Winter gear is marked down from 40% to 70% off. Because sales have been a bit slower than normal the last two months, their selection should still be quite good. I wouldn’t wait until Monday though! There’s also summer gear on sale too for those looking to gear up for the outdoors, since that’s about all we can do right now.
The Tahoe Sports Hub is currently open from 9 AM until 7 PM. I know Rob, Wrenn and the rest of the Sports Hub crew will appreciate your support.
“Sniagrab”…a term to describe big ski sales, coined by Gart Sports in 1954. Gart Sports eventually became the Sports Authority…now gone. Let’s support our local businesses so they don’t also disappear!
