It’s Almost Like Christmas Eve

  • by

Tomorrow is the day we have been waiting for since last May. Alpine Meadows returns for another season, hopefully better than 2011-12. There’s been a number of reports heard today. Tomorrow should be a slow and soft opening. That does not mean the snow will be soft – it means that everything may not be totally ready out of the gate. Weather conditions this week have been challenging to say the least. Coverage near the base of Alpine is reportedly much better than Squaw Valley and given the roughly 750 foot differential, it certainly makes a difference.

Sadly, my working schedule for the week is going to keep me away from opening day this year. I am sure Andy will have a report for you. If you want to send some pictures, we’ll share them.

We also got a “Christmas Eve” present today. Details of the Tahoe Really Pretty Super Pass Plus were announced today in an e-mail from Andy Wirth. With the KSL acquisition of 24% of Whistler-Blackcomb, gold level passholders will get 2 free lift tickets at Whistler-Blackcomb this season. Additional tickets may be purchased for $25 CAD off. While this is not the unlimited skiing and riding that some had hoped for this week, it is still awesome. It cost us nothing up front on our passes to add these new perks. We’ll see soon if they had to raise the price of beer to cover the purchase. No word from Andy on Kokanee discounts, but we have to get our advertising blocks filled to fund a small portion of a roadtrip to Canada.

Have fun out there tomorrow. i will patiently wait until Saturday….
