The Friends of Alpine Meadows group will be holding its first public meeting this Saturday. The meeting will be held at the Tahoe Mill, at the base of Alpine Meadows road, at 5 pm on Saturday, February 21, 2015. FoAM organizers plan to release the results of their Alpine Meadows User Survey and discuss their goals. It will also be a chance to meet some of the faces behind the Friends of Alpine Meadows.
FoAM began as a movement on Facebook in response to Squaw Valley Ski Holdings management of the mountain, which has lead to a diminished experience for many Alpine Meadows faithful. The group is hoping to work productively with mountain managers to provide an experience that balances the Alpine Meadows experience with the needs of the investors. Early reports are that SVSH is willing to listen, as they have with the Friends of Squaw Valley group.
FoAM will also be holding a raffle at the event to raise funds for an upcoming project. Donations have been secured so far from Arbor Boardhouse, Carnelian Bay 7-11, TraceUp.com and a few other local businesses. Pricing for tickets has not yet been disclosed. There will also be an informal no-host meet ‘n greet at The Crest cafe before the formal meeting.
We encourage you and your posse to attend. It is possible to create change. We all have to be proactive in protecting a mountain that may be “owned” by investors, but is in reality a part of all of us. We loved Ethan Smith’s recent opinion piece in Moonshine Ink which tackles the subject of “The Ski Oligarchy”. Although Mr. Smith is not an active member of the Friends of Alpine Meadows, he makes a great case for their existence.
We hope to see you this Saturday!
The sheer number of organizations and movements being assembled in response to KSL speaks volumes.
I’m in and so are my friends! Cool!!
Can the FoAM folks ask KSL to open up the storm doors?
or Oly Lady, sure looks good up there!
