Hello Skiers and Riders,
Day two of the Thanksgiving weekend at Squaw Valley was better than day one. First of all there were fewer people on the hill, or it seemed that way, in the morning. A second run was groomed at Shirley Lake. This spread out the skiers. The grooming was better, death cookies were groomed away. It was warmer under sunny skies, so the snow softened earlier. We rode Emigrant Chair today and found spring snow. Thin in places, but not bad above the end of the Gold Coast Chair.
Siberia Chair opened late, but we were already off the mountain. The bowl was not groomed and appeared to still be frozen.
Better grooming, and softer conditions earlier, brought the total rating higher today than it was yesterday. Warm spring conditions, but at least we were outside enjoying ourselves.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
Mark’s addition: More terrain was available today as the boundary rope for Gold Coast was moved farther to the right, allowing for some smooth corn turns near Siberia Bowl. Additionally, the main Shirley Bowl, pictured yesterday, was opened today with a few groomer strips wide of skiable machine tilled surface available. The late opening of Siberia only offered a bit more terrain down the ridge line to Gold Coast, but it did take quite a bit of pressure off the Gold Coat line. Will the bowl get opened for the weekend? It sure seems like Squaw is making a reasonable effort to expand terrain offerings. Overall, it was a fantastic November day at Squaw.
