The Rhalves’ Banzai Tour has proven to be one of the most challenging events around Tahoe the last two seasons. Low tide conditions in 2012 required a lot of creativity in line selection, and the 2011 event was run during a brutal cold snap at Alpine Meadows. Maybe the 2013 season will bring us the perfect conditions for the tour.
The Alpine Meadows tour stop is currently scheduled for February 9-10. There are also stops at Kirkwood, Squaw Valley, with the super final event to be held at Sugar Bowl on March 9-10. Competition is open to male and females, on both skis and snowboards. The total purse for the event is $80,000 and the opportunity to race against Daron Rahlves, the Banzai Master.
The Banzai Tour has its roots in Sugar Bowl’s Silver Belt Downhill Race, which began in the 1940’s. Daron Rahlves brought the event back to life in 2009 and expanded the tour to four stops the following year. Make your plans now to catch one of Tahoe’s premier ski and snowboard events.
