Opening Day Question Still Lingers

Even with the last storm being a bit more wet than we would have liked, resorts around Tahoe are continuing to announce opening dates. Storm totals from last weekend amounted to 9-12 inches for most resorts above 7000′. Areas below 7000′ most likely suffered a net loss of snow, given large amounts of rain and temperatures too warm for snow making.

In the department of weather, Paul at TahoeWeatherBlog.com is painting a fairly positive picture. There seems to be some moisture available for Wednesday and more on the horizon next week. Here’s the details.

So the question remains if Alpine Meadows is really going to open the same weekend as Tahoe Donner, only beating out Soda Springs and Diamond Peak for season openers in 2012-13. The word on the street is that opening dates of 11/30 and even this weekend are under consideration. So what is the answer? Many people would like to know…

Added later: Oops. Granlibakken opens on December 21…yes, another resort beat by Alpine Meadows!

  1. Don’t be stupid people. Alpine will open by November 30 or earlier. No reason to laugh or howl Kevbot. If your reading comprehension was better you would have read that Alpine will be open before Granlibakken even if Alpine’s opening day remains December 6.

  2. December, November, September, Shred-ember, After 2 or 3 glasses of the cider I just cooked up, I can’t keep those straight. Yea, I read it wrong. Still laughing though.

    P.S.
We’ll see who’s really laughing when those lifts ACTUALLY start turning, for more than 2 hours a day.
