Our Thoughts & Condolences To The Family & Friends Of Annalise Kjolhede

Many of you are aware of a serious incident at Alpine Meadows on Saturday, November 10. It’s clear that people are wanting to know what happened. Traffic to UnofficialAlpine.com tripled over the last two days. Most of that traffic has come from Google searches like “alpine meadows ski accident 2012”. Normally we would not want to publish details of such an accident. But Annalise Kjolhede was an Alpine Meadows employee in the Kid’s Camp and will be sorely missed by the Alpine Meadows community. I believe it was Annalise that gave my young niece her first ski lesson last season.

Annalise was skiing with friends somewhere near Wolverine Bowl (reportedly), before the resort opened for the season, on an amazing early season powder day. She suffered a traumatic brain injury after hitting a submerged rock. Several members of the Alpine Meadows patrol were on site for a refresher that day and were involved in the rescue. Several other employees and friends were also on the scene. It will be hard to erase those painful memories.

For those interested in more information, there is a very detailed account at her page at Caring Bridge. please be warned that it is detailed and graphic. You may also leave messages for Annalise’s family or donate to her expenses on that page. Again, our thoughts and condolences go out to Annalise’s family and friends. For the rest of us, let’s be careful out there.

  3. Hello,
We here at KTVU Channel 2 in Oakland are reporting on the tragic death of Annalise Kjolhede and we would like to use your photo of her. We would give credit to unofficial alpine or whoever you would like.
We will be reporting this Thursday, November 15 on the Ten O’clock news.
And could you please tell us how to pronounce her last name? We don’t want to make a mistake.
    Thank you,
    Merle Kahree
    KTVU

    1. The picture came from Annalise’s Caring Bridge page. See the link in the above article. I honestly cannot say I know how to pronounce that name either. I have only been introduced to her as Annie and Annalise.
