It’s About To Look A Lot Like Winter

  • by

There’s many people that find it hard to believe that weather forecasters ever get things correct. If you’ve ever watched KCRA talk about every storm as “the biggest storm of the season”, you know what I mean. But it looks like that statement will be accurate for this storm, as it is the first and only storm so far this season.

Sometime this weekend, the NOAA changed their prediction from a Winter Storm Watch (it could happen) to a Winter Storm Warning (it’s going to happen). We also like that all of the forecasts are coming together for more than one wave of snow. The end result is that some forecasts are calling for as much as 3 feet by the end of the week at Blue Canyon.

We love forecasts that look like this in late October:

And here’s the current version of the Winter Storm Warning:

If this pan’s out, it’s pretty much a given that Boreal will open next weekend instead of waiting until Halloween. For people willing to hike or skin, there may be some skiable conditions at Alpine Meadows. Will the snow keep coming after this week? Would Alpine Meadows want to retain its title as “Last Resort To Open In Tahoe” (in the interest of “quality”…..rrrriiiiggghhhhhtttt)? There was a time, in 2004, when Alpine Meadows opened for the season on October 30th. Maybe this will be the year that we find out if KSL is a real estate company or winter resort operator….
