Alpine Meadows will be reopening the next three days, May 2-4th. That just seemed to be an impossible dream in mid-March. But a couple of big storms and some intensive snow farming have allowed Alpine Meadows to extend operations through the next two weekends. Closing day is scheduled for Sunday, May 11.
What will this weekend bring?
• The official report says that only intermediate and advanced terrain will be available. Lift operations are not specified. It would not be unreasonable to expect only Summit for the weekend. That’s pretty much been the case for operations during the month of May for a long time.
• The snow conditions will probably not be ideal. Temperatures have been warm over the last week. Overnight temperatures have not been freezing. It’s probable that things will start soft and turn to mashed potatoes rapidly each day.
• The operations hours for lifts will switch to 8 am til 1 pm for the next two weekends.. That is a good change as things will likely get too soft early. It is the right season for planning tailgaters in the parking lot.
• The weather will be warm and sunny Friday, but winds will increase for the weekend. Winds are forecast to be up to 35 mph over the weekend, as a cold front gets ready to move on shore early next week. The high temperatures will still be fairly warm at the base, but brisk in the wind at Summit.
We’re looking forward to getting out there again!
8am, sounds good.
For closing weekend I’ll do my best 🙂
I smell hot wax in the kitchen and my peeps from Kirkwood are the bringing Southshore stoke! Watchout!
