Somebody around Alpine Meadows has to take responsibility for these announcements, especially when it comes to Alpine Meadows pride. Today, USSA officially announced it’s roster for the US Freeskiing Olympic Team for the 2014 Sochi Games and David Wise and Brita Sigourney have qualified for the skier halfpipe event. It’s not a surprise to those of us that have been following the careers of these skiers for the last 10+ years.
Sigourney & Wise both started their halfpipe ski careers on the Alpine Meadows Freestyle Team, coached by Clay Beck. Both skiers were a part of the first FIS NorAm Skier Halfpipe competition held in the United States, held at Alpine Meadows in 2005. It was the beginning of a dream for Clay Beck, whom was instrumental in bringing skier halfpipe to the Olympics. The Sochi Games are the first year for a competitive skier halfpipe event. It’s quite fitting that Wise and Sigourney will be there to bring things full circle. We wish both of them luck and will keep you posted on their results.
For a closer look at the careers of Wise and Sigourney, check out “Cusp Of Glory: A Tahoe Coach’s Legacy” at Squaw Valley’s Plaza Bar at 8 pm tomorrow, Sunday, January 19. More details on the film are available at the Cusp Of Glory site.
We are glad that someone is you Mark and not some Spin Doctors from KSL. Good Luck Athletes and bring home a gold!
