Feeling Disconnected At Alpine? AT&T Subscribers Say Yes

The Mark The Spot app allows you to report poor service to AT&T.
The Mark The Spot app allows you to report poor service to AT&T.

If you live anywhere in rural California, you already know that subscribing to AT&T for cell service is a bad idea. While AT&T provides excellent coverage in metropolitan areas, its coverage in Lake Tahoe and surrounding areas has always been abysmal. Recent reports indicate that AT&T service has gotten even worse this season. I can verify that because one of my ski buddies swears through every lunch as he tries to catch up on his email or check the hockey scores.

As much as I am a “Mac guy”, I was forced to shun the first four versions of the iPhone, as it was not available for Verizon service. Some have suggested that a roaming agreement has expired between Verizon and AT&T, causing the downgraded service lately. That seems like an unlikely suggestion as AT&T uses a GSM network, while Verizon uses a CDMA network. Relatively few phones are out there that can use both networks, and move from one to another seamlessly. There’s probably some other explanation. We’re guessing that AT&T’s carrying capacity is just outstripped during peak holiday periods. Haven’t you noticed that not only does everyone have a smartphone, their four kids also have their own phones too? On every ride up Summit, probably half of the riders are checking email, posting a picture to Instagram or tweeting what they had for lunch. Yeah, I am guilty too.

The proposed solution works either way. If you’re a dissatisfied AT&T customer, you should give them feedback. AT&T makes it easy for users to report trouble, using its “Mark The Spot” application. The application is available for both iPhones (iOS) and for Android phones. As always, it’s easy to complain about things. It’s just as easy to be a proactive part of a solution. Download the app today and start letting AT&T know what you think. Someday, you’ll be able to pretend like you’re at the office just like us Verizon customers.

AT&T's Mark The Spot application is viable for both iOS and Android devices.

    Dear Unofficialalpine

Thank you for this. Are we correct in thinking it is best to acquire a disposable mobile phone at the airport or in Truckee which is part of Verizone?

    Thankyou in an advance

    A tourist.

    1. The phone line must of been working as I saw National Patrolers by the slow signs today! and could someone call in a snowstorm so we can put our phones away and ski some Pow?

Gosh, I hope they can get the cheese tomorrow at the Chalet, as I’m really waiting to try their “Signature dish”
What’s the number for the cheese hotline?

  3. Hi,

According to the Miami Press, Placer can’t be hurt by the incorporation fiscally.

I have an idea: we get Placer to take $200,000 out of the BOS’ wages for that “expert report”. You know, the one that assessed if 6 sites – not for sale = might be suitable to take as a museum site.

Then there’s $100,000,000 sewerage deal for Auburn they don’t need: that’s $100m of crap saved.

There’s the $7.5m for the buses we saved them.

They can keep their $5m bus stop on the 64 acres.

They can take back their $94,000 bus stop at the 7/11.

In fact, they can keep Jennifer Montgomery and her big pay packet for free because we’re generos

By the end of an audit, Placer’s ugly sisters won’t get Alimony: they’ll owe us big time for neglecting their little cash cow .

    Love

  4. I spoke with AT&T about this issue this morning. They told me that they do not offer coverage in this area so they mark my spot may not work. They did say that they would pay Alpine $$$ to put up a cell tower @ Alpine. I sent squaw an email this morning. If you would like to get coverage, please feel free to send the below email to squaw@squaw.com
    Hello Squaw,
I am not able to get any signal at Alpine on my AT&T phone. AT&T indicated that they do not offer coverage in the Alpine Meadows area because they do not have a tower in your area. They told me that they would be pay the property owner handsomely to be able to provide service in that area.
In order to start negotiations they need you to send the following information:
Contact’s name, number, address, and e-mail address Property address Property size acres or square feet Latitude/longitudeMap or survey
    To this email
    mailto:Releaseadmin@att.com
Please let me know if this is something you can do.

  5. At&t USED to work at Alpine. Not the greatest but functional in certain parts of the lodge and entire parking lot. They changed something. They are BS’ing about not offering service. Why not just ask them to “unalter” whatever they changed a couple of years ago. It is not a call traffic issue. No longer works at all at any time.
