Fall Colors & Winter Preparations On The Mountain

Hello Friends,

Save Mart will be history in a few days. If you have not heard yet, it will become a Safeway. The old Safeway in Tahoe City will move to the Save Mart building after they have had time to renovate the space. It appears we will have one store in Tahoe City, at least for now. Safeway will not be operating in the new space until sometime in 2024. I hope someone else moves into Safeways old space as I think we really need two stores.

Cottonwood, Aspen, and Maple Trees are turning color all around town as well as on river banks and mountain side. Lower foliage is also turning color. Yellow, gold, orange, and red colors are making there fall splashes. It is a beautiful time of year and time to begin thinking about winter. I had my skis tuned at the Start House in Truckee (in my opinion they do an excellent job). The place was brimming with locals seeking new skis, boots, and more.

Preparations are underway for opening day. Pads were being wrapped around snow making poles in anticipation of colder temperatures. Apparently they are ready to begin making snow as soon as possible. Some snow poles are going up along the streets in Alpine Meadows as plow drivers begin preparations for a big winter.

The past couple of days have been cool, especially in the mornings. People walking and riding bicycles are all bundled up as the seasons move from Fall to Winter. Have you taken off your summer tires and swapped them out for snow tires yet?

There are a number of homes in various stages of construction in Alpine Meadows and all the Tahoe/Truckee Areas. Crews are working hard to button up the exteriors before snow flies. The real estate market has held it own in this area over the summer. In Alpine Meadows there are only 3 completed homes and 1 condominium for sale. If you are interested click this link. I do know of a couple of smaller homes that are not currently on the market that might be available for sale.

Get out and enjoy the rest of October before the ground turns white.

Enjoy your day,

Andy

  1. It’s totally a jinx to put your snow tires on too early. You have to wait for there to be at least one period of chain controls on local highways. That said, if you have not got them on yet, I heard the next available appointment to get them swapped is currently March 2024!

  2. Thanks Andy. As usual, UA is our best news source. Bummer that our easy-access grocery will be out of operation while changing hands.
