If you’re looking for something to do and want to support some good causes, next weekend is a great weekend to be in North Tahoe. It’s hard to argue against supporting kids’ ski and snowboard teams or the local humane society. Here’s the details:
Saturday, August 24th – Alpine 2 Squaw 10K Challenge
This event benefits the Squaw Valley – Alpine Meadows Foundation. This dedicated group of parents from both mountain supports more than 15 different children’s ski and snowboard teams. Their support ranges from scholarships for athletes to funding continuing education for coaches.
Saturday’s Challenge run begins in the Alpine Meadows parking lot, goes over Juniper Ridge, ending at Squaw Valley near KT-22. Race check in is at Squaw Valley, with shuttles available to the Alpine Meadows Starting point. Online registration is encouraged and cheaper. Day of race registration is also available. Complete details for the Challenge are available at the SVAMF site.
Saturday & Sunday, August 24-25 – Peaks & Paws
This event, hosted by Squaw Valley, benefits the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe. There’s two days worth of pet friendly activities and bluegrass music scheduled. Twelve different bands are scheduled for the event, including the Dead Winter Carpenters. (This would be a great time to find out how awesome the Dead Winter Carpenters and Lonesome Locomotive will be at the Lost Sierra Hoedown!) There will also be wine tasting and beer available at the event for an additional cost. Complete details are available at the Peaks & Paws page at Squaw.com.
On Sunday, Tahoe Super Pass holders can also take advantage of free tram and High Camp pool access. After a week of thunderstorms, rain and clouds, the weather should be perfect this weekend in Tahoe, and probably much less crowded than the following weekend.
