Variable Conditions

I have not been out skiing much for the passed 10 days so today brought a smile to my face. No complaints from me for not skiing as I was enjoying a vacation in Maui floating in water and walking on sand.

Today the sun was out, although there were thunder clouds in the sky not far from the slopes. Snow conditions varied greatly depending on the sun exposure, location, and whether or not it had been groomed.  Areas that had been groomed skied nice and smoothly.

Trails that  softened too much tended to be sticky, especially on the flatter areas. In many areas sun cups exist off groomed slopes. They were either soft and soon flatten out as skiers turned in the same location, or they were firm and did not offer the most smooth or calming ride.

I enjoyed, although it was a little bumpy with sun cups, S.P. Bowl.  Sherwood Face was soft enough and offered some good spring snow as did Chute Zero/East Gully next to the Sherwood Chair.  I did enjoy making some steeper turns in Counter Weight Gully as it was a little more firm than the south facing side of Sherwood.

Yellow Trail, God’s Knob, Dance Floor, and Werner’s Schuss varied from nice spring snow to some areas of stickiness. Sympathy Face was very good as was Bobby’s and Ridge Run off the Scott Chair.  Temperatures this morning ranged from 62 early in the morning to 49 this afternoon. Perhaps the thunder clouds have cooled thing off a bit.  If you picked your spots well today, you should of had a very nice spring day of skiing.

Enjoy your day,

Andy

  1. It is amazing the amount of snow melt that happened over the last two days…all of that rock now showing in Sherwood. Plus the summer road crossing on the main groomer is suddenly reducing the groomer to half size. Myself, I jumped back on the Chute Zero game today, putting in 8 laps. I was not the only one. We’ve got some moguls forming there. I’m pretty focused on getting as much out of Sherwood as I can through this week.
