New Yoga Shack?

A reader sent in this photo from a recent hike at Alpine Meadows. No, it’s not a yoga shack, nor is it a furniture store (we hope). Those were among the meager improvements offered by our Squalpine overlords, as we reported back on May 11.

We’re happy to see this new Ski Patrol shack under construction at the top of Lakeview. All of the patrol shacks are pretty minimalistic. It’s nice to see some investment being made in this area to keep patrollers happy and equipment protected. We hope to see new shacks at the top of Sherwood and Scott soon as well.

  1. Yup! Meant to tell you about this! We hiked up there early this spring (right after closing when there was still plenty of snow up top) and the old shack was ripped apart. We sat on a pile of new lumber and ate out sandwiches and enjoyed the view! The new shack doesn’t look that different than the old (maybe a new location for the door? — hard to tell from photo). We COULD do some yoga on the deck! :o) See you on the Lake!

  2. The Sherwood Shack was new about 2 winters ago. So don’t see any changes there. It’s nice and warm and has pretty much enough room inside for a stormy day. Great porch to sit outside on a sunny day and visit with guests. The Scott shack is in pretty good shape, and is only used when Lakeview lift is closed.

  3. KSL might want to think about upgrading the patrol shack at top of Round House so patrollers can respond more quickly to the mayhem that ill conceived terrain park on Dance Floor generates. As it stands now the response has to come from Summit which adds crucial minutes.

  4. For those of you that hike up to the shack in summer. The patrol shacks are typically left unlocked. If you decide to use it to hide out from a squall, or crash for the night – remember that people have to work there come winter. Be considerate please. The Lakeview shack is a pretty amazing place to take in the view of the valley and the lake.
