Calm Before the Storm

What a difference a windless clear blue sky makes after yesterdays windy cloudy morning. The overnight temperature dropped into the teens allowing snow to be made on Rock Garden and Upper Weasel One. A little new snow softened the surface for the first few runs on Roundhouse.

Snow clinging to trees from overnight snowmaking.  I am hoping to see all the trees looking like this in the next couple of days.

There were not many people on the slope this morning which kept the surface softer for a little longer than it has been the last couple of days. After too many people have skied over the early groomed slopes they become slick requiring good edges to keep from sliding across the slopes somewhat out of control. In honor of Giving Tuesday, we skied Charity a number of times. Charity is a mogul field that has not had a refreshment of new snow for sometime. However, the mogul surface remains chalky firm winter snow. There are rocks on the backs of some moguls so extreme caution is advised.

We skied the Charity mogul field thinking of Giving Tuesday as we negotiated the moguls

Surface condition on Weasel were pretty much the same as Rock Garden and Dance Floor. Prior to the past couple days we were skiing East Gully which is skier right of the Weasel Trail, but a race course has been set up on this portion of the skiable terrain accessible from the TLC lift. For those of you who enjoy manmade terrain features a course has been set up on the left side of the Tigle Trail.
Weather changes are coming with winds scheduled to pick up tomorrow afternoon and snow is predicted beginning Thursday and hopefully continuing over the weekend. Winter storm warnings are up for snow measuring into the multiple foot range by the end of the this coming weekend (figures crossed while I knock on wood).

Enjoy your day,

Andy

  1. According to Andy, the new paper trail map does indeed spell it “Tigle”. For those considering donations for Giving Tuesday, both the Alpine Patrol Dogs and Achieve Tahoe are very deserving organizations.
