Mammoth has predicted that all of the snow on Broadway will melt at precisely 1:00pm Saturday…

Mammoth defined “indefinitely” today. Although they had hoped to rely on a snow storm and cool temperatures this week to preserve snow this week, instead they received rain and temperatures ranging into the 70’s by the weekend. Although Broadway, the main access run to the lower mountain, currently looks good. It’s predicted that it will go quick. So quick that Mammoth has announced Saturday, June 1st as their final day of skiing and riding. Not Sunday, Saturday. As Spock would say, “highly illogical.” Surely this will cut down this weekend’s skier counts as Mammoth is quite a trek from the Bay Area or SoCal. Us diehards will still be there for Saturday.

For those wanting to make the trek, Mammoth is approximately a 3 hour drive from Reno or Tahoe. There’s plenty of scenery along the way, and some cool spots to stop and fish if you’re starting that seasonal adjustment. Mammoth has also opened some runs in the bike park and opened their golf course. Throw in a short hike and it would be easy to stage a pentathlon on Saturday.

In the Tahoe region, the PR machine is just getting cranked up for Boreal’s Summer Shred on June 15th.  Temperatures are also forecast to be near 70° at Boreal over the weekend. It is tough to preserve snow at those temperatures! There’s definitely some doubts about what will be left in 2 weeks. Here’s the current state of the stockpile of snow for building a WROD mini-park:
