Hello Friends,
Happy Fourth of July to all. It looks as if the Tahoe Basin will be filled with visitors this weekend so please be careful out on the roads, keep your garbage to yourselves, and be courteousto others who are also trying to enjoy all that Tahoe has to offer.
It looks like it will be a beautiful weekend with cooler temperatures that will make for good hiking and biking weather. The mountain bike trails are in excellent condition. We were out riding on the Tahoe Nordic Center trails this morning. They are not dusty and edged with wildflowers.
Yesterday afternoon we walked the Sagehen Trail north of Truckee. There are plenty of wildflowers blooming along the path from Hwy. 89 to the edge of Stampede Reservoir (the edge of the Lake is a long way out from the end of the trail). Normally you can walk to the lake easily from the end of the trail, but low water is the name of the game this season. There is water running in the creek along side the trail.
Some of the flowers we noted along the way were: At least two types of Lupine, Hairy Paintbrush, White Brodiaea, Scarlet Gilia, Applegate’s Paintbrush, Crimson Columbine, Bridge’s Gila (carpets of small pink flowers), Meadow Penstamon, Butter Cups, Shrubby Cinquefoil, Yampa, Oregon Sidalcea, Common Mallow, and Shooting Stars.
Tahoe City Fireworks will be replaced with a drone show on July 4th as will the displays in Kings Beach and Incline Village. Fireworks will be displayed at Donner Lake at the west end beach.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
Thank you
