The Corn Harvest Begins

Hello Skiers & Riders,

The winds were howling over the ridge top this morning closing Summit and Alpine Bowl Chair. The temperatures remained relatively cool all day, which kept the snow firm in some areas, especially after the warmth we have had the past few days. However, the sun was able to soften snow at Sherwood and other south facing slopes by about 11 this morning. We skied the face of Sherwood and South Face just before noon and found spring snow conditions.

Before noon, we lapped Roundhouse enjoying some nicely groomed trails. I picked my way down Sympathy turning on chalk in the troughs of moguls. God’s Knob on the south facing slope was pretty hard early in the morning; a good way to lose a filling or two. Dance Floor, Charity, Werner’s Schuss, Red Ridge, Ladies Slalom, and the lower portion of Terry’s Return were fast and still in winter snow condition. At about 12:30 we skied Ridge Run and Bobby’s Trail which both had been groomed overnight. The snow had just soften creating a nice spring surface.

The good news was that the parking lot did not fill up, and was certainly not overflowing which meant lines were not long and slopes not overcrowded. It was basically a lovely day on the slopes.

Achieve Tahoe: Volunteers Needed

A couple of days ago I rode the lift with Catherine Rodriguez and Josephine Cormier, who are both associated with Achieve Tahoe. Achieve Tahoe is an incredible organization that provides year-round outdoor recreation activities for people with cognitive, sensory, and physical disabilities. They serve just about anyone with any disability. They focus on health, confidence, and independence so that the experience people have with them is long-lasting and carries over into other areas of their life.

This program puts smiles on so many people with varying disabilities. The program is extremely popular and finds itself over subscribed. There is a wait list for many who wish to participate at this point in time. Thus, Achieve Tahoe is seeking additional volunteers to assist with there many winter and summer programs. If you have any interesting in putting smiles on those participating, or wanting to participate in this wonderful program, please contact Achieve Tahoe. You can check out their website at achievetahoe.org.

Enjoy your day,

Andy

  1. Today turned out far better than expected as far as softening snow around noon. It was about as corn-ish as it gets this time of year. I managed to get in a lot of vert in for not having Summit available.
