It turned out to be a perfect spring day at Alpine Meadows. There was a good hard freeze overnight that reduced the moisture content of the snow and formed some awesome fresh corn. Things began to thaw out right on time. There was smooth corn immediately in Sweet Spot, Sun Spot, Rock Garden and Yellow. As the day wore on you just had to follow the sun. Although we didn’t take the time to hike today, Upper Beaver skied well and later, Keyhole and High Yellow Face.
The turnout for the High Five’s TRAiNS event seemed just a bit smaller, which is unfortunate because this year’s show may have been one of the best. The competitor list was the usual blend of movie stars and local pros, all very talented and all pushing tricks to new levels. There were a lot of highlights from the competition. The crowd favorite today seemed to be 11 year old Cody LaPlante, who surprised the crowd (and his mother) by throwing a huge double in the third round. Not only was it his first double, he stomped it. As soon as High Fives posts their video from the event, we’ll share it here.
Tomorrow should be another epic spring day at Alpine Meadows, with similar temperatures and another freeze expected tonight. There’s only 4 more days to enjoy it so drop those garden tools, stop washing the car and get some awesome corn turns in. I’ll be meeting a bunch of friends at Mt Rose for their closer tomorrow – if you want to share a report or pics from Alpine tomorrow, email us.
Updated: Here’s the link to Cody LaPlante’s dubflat. It’s been a season long goal for Cody. Awesome job Cody!
I saw that double. Impressive.
Great skiing today, too.
