The writing seems to be on the wall folks. At best, we can expect 6 more days of skiing and riding at Alpine Meadows. Although suggestions have been made that Alpine Meadows would remain open through mid-May…weather and conditions permitting. There’s the problem. The weather is just not helping conditions. While BA and other forecasters were looking for a return of winter in late March, and again in late April – that did not happen.
Don’t panic – we’re not suggesting that Alpine Meadows is closing on the 21st of April. As it looks, there are 6 days of skiing and riding available: April 19, April 20, April 21, April 26, April 27 and April 28th. If you enjoy lift-served skiing around Lake Tahoe – Alpine Meadows looks like it may be the last holdout that stays open until the ned of April.
This news just in…an un-named source has reported that Squaw Valley will be pulling the plug after this weekend’s operations, ending their season on April 21st. While this has not been confirmed yet – it makes some sense. The source on this change in dates has been 100% reliable before…if you like Squaw Valley, it may be time to schedule a day there very soon. This looks confirmed now as Squaw has updated their website.
Don’t know what I’m more depressed about on this day: Taxes or the news that Alpine’s days are now numbered for this mediocre season. Was a fun season all around given the conditions. Now, how about a discussion of relocating the terrain park to a better location and not have it on Dance Floor next season?
Last night at Gary Murphy’s retirement party, we heard from THE reliable source that all the lift-ops were laid off yesterday at Alpine. Doesn’t look good, unless there’s another “undercover boss” out there bumping chairs.
Andy Wirth bumping chairs. Now that would be something to see. And he wouldn’t have to dumb it down for that. Maybe get his wife at the ticket booth…
