Corn Growing All Over

  • by

I see some clouds building over the Sierra Crest this afternoon. My skis remained in my locker today as I have been trying to finish my taxes which is one of my least favorite things to do. However, yesterday I thought the late morning skiing was excellent. Pure spring corn and some sticky spring snow especially off piste. Tower 19 or 20 into Alpine Bowl, Wolverine under Idiot’s Delight, Ladies Slalom which was ungroomed, and Sweet Spot which was also ungroomed next to Sunspot were all in good wet spring condition.
Not everyone enjoys this type of snow that can easily get sticky and stop you dead in your tracks or cause one to catch an edge and wrench a knee, but for some reason I enjoy it. Perhaps it is the warm weather, the feeling of smooth wet soft snow underfoot, or perhaps the smooth corn surface that appears this time of year. Follow the sun and you will find corn growing on a day like yesterday or most likely today. However, winter weather may be on the way which will change everything. If we receive the snow that is forecast in the near future, then perhaps we will get a day or to of powder which will be followed by a couple of days of groomed only skiing while mother nature starts the corn harvest over again.
This week may be the last week for most lifts to operate a Alpine Meadows. Summit Chair, which is the most important should continue to operate for awhile. Thank you management for trying to keep at least one lift turning at Alpine.

Enjoy your day,

Andy
