A breeze was still blowing at the top of Summit this morning. It was a little chilly for those of us who were underdressed, but not really cold. As usual Sunspot was the place to go on the first one or two runs as it was well groomed and already soft at 9am. One of my compatriots described the first Sunspot visit as exquisite. I would agree that it was creamy and felt lovely under foot.
However, from the bottom of Rock Garden the surface turned to very firm corduroy which tends to jar my fillings loose. I would like to have easily erased that portion of the morning run from my memory bank. I described the first run as Exquisite to Erasable.
Terry’s Return, Alpine Bowl, Yellow Trail and Wolverine were soon just as lovely as Sunspot as they quickly softened. By 10:30 we were ready to hike the High Traverse to Upper Saddle and head into Sun Bowl and beyond. The snow was very good spring corn in most areas. Here’s High Traverse this morning:
After 11 Scott was the lift of choice . Bobby’s and Ridge Run were again turning to a perfect flat creamy surface.
By the way races have been running on Werner’s Schuss taking up much of the trail. It is fun to watch these FIS competitors running the slalom, but it also narrows one of the main runs out of Wolverine.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
Editor’s Note: Today ended up being the final day for Lakeview this season. My report yesterday mentioned how thin it was getting there. Sherwood will not be far behind, as it is getting thin there as well. It is on the schedule for tomorrow. It’s possible that they may continue run it some mornings for High Traverse returns after the regular Sherwood terrain is closed. – Mark
While Andy was hiking out to High Traverse, I headed straight to Sherwood and picked up another dozen laps there. The slush bumps are still super fun, but many lines are starting to close out. South Face still has plenty of great continuous lines. Get it while you can, as it’s likely that this will be the last weekend for Sherwood.
