Sweet Turns

A little new snow overnight brought smiles to our faces.

It was another cold morning on the ski hill with high winds screaming over the ridge tops causing Summit to be placed on wind hold. Winds were strong from the east gusting to 77 miles per hour at 1:00 p.m. Temperatures were holding around 18 degrees. Lighting varied from beautiful sunshine to gray overcast causing flat light at times. As the day progressed the sky cleared more and lighting improved.

It snowed overnight a few inches making the low angle slopes, once again, best for off-piste skiing. First turns on the groomed trails were just right as snow covered their flat surface. Yellow Trail was especially good on the first run before many tracks had been inked into the virgin surface. We enjoyed many turns making fresh tracks over the groomed surfaces of Scott Chair before heading to Lakeview where the meadow proved to be inspiring as usual. Bob and I laid down a nice set of figure 8s and an even better set of combed turns (check out the attached photo). We did try Sherwood which did not have as much to offer. Power Line had a wind crust and icy chunks underneath. It is good squeaky snow, which will hold up until the weather changes in a day or two, when warm spring temperatures are due to sail into Tahoe.

Last, I would like to ask if anyone is interested in two possible rentals. I have two clients asking me for something that I do not have at this time. A couple is looking for a two or three bedrooms home for a year lease in Alpine Meadows. They would consider something smaller. Another family is seeking a ski lease for next season. It’s a great family that is just selling their home in Tahoe Donner and would like to be in Alpine next year for the ski season. Let me know if you have any interest in renting your property to either of the above Alpine lovers.

Enjoy your day,

Andy

  1. Aww man! I’m sorry I had to make today a very short day! But it made my family happy that I prioritized getting my first COVID vaccination. I’m glad you and Bob took care of that empty palette.
