One Great Day

I heard a number of complaints this afternoon from skiers who were moving slowly and claimed to have sore legs. The reason is simple. Skiing was epic, at least for this season, as the whole mountain was open and many places had not been skied yesterday. Too many hikes results in sore legs.

We had a wonderful morning staying away from groomed runs and heavily skied trails. We headed for the High Traverse first and were treated to foot deep powder from top to bottom. It was a complete joy that put smiles on all of our faces and left curvy lines behind us on a once virgin palette. Then through the trees, to the open slope at Power Line and a few soft tight turns in the trees of Outer Outer Limits.

After a few other joyous runs off Scott Chair we returned to Lakeview. We left the in-bounds portion of the ski area for parts unknown. Well, we headed for Field of Dreams and skied down to Snow Crest Road. One cannot complain when mostly untracked snow that is about a foot deep and very light fills the slopes in front of you. That explains our run through the trees and open slopes offered in the area I call Field of Dreams. It was dreamy and left me smiling for the rest of the day.

If you are thinking of skiing this area which is out of bounds, do not leave a car parked at the base of the run. When we arrived at Snow Crest Road, where a couple of people had parked their cars in a space that appears to be off the road, a CHP officer was sitting writing tickets and placing them on windshields.

I do not think there were many places that were not “happy places” on the mountain today. Light snow is falling this afternoon. Perhaps tomorrow will bring us a fresh start so we can repeat today.

Enjoy your day,

Andy

  1. It pays to have a real estate agent who gets you to buy the house at the end of the Field of Dreams so you can leave your car shuttle car in your own driveway (thanks Andy). My last couple days have been fantastic. I skied home four times, hiked to some great lines, and still managed to get some clinics in. But two days in a row the Squaw app zeroed out my stats for the day after I skied OB back to my house. Weird.

    1. If I tried really hard, I could ski home from Northstar, but it would be a journey. I think I’ll keep skiing at Alpine…

  2. I think my daughter and I got one of the last runs down Alpine Bowl at the end of the day. We had it all to ourselves and was just perfection and a good time. What skiing is all about….
