Almost Corn

It was very warm on the slopes today. We skied from 11 to 1, testing different locations on the mountain. I was overheated at times as the sun was baking slopes at midday. The good news is that I really like spring skiing and many aspects softened leaving firmness for another day.

Groomed corduroy was again excellent in the early hours and still enjoyable late morning. We hiked the High Traverse at noon finding good soft spring conditions in CB Chute and Sun Bowl. It was not absolutely smooth underfoot as some lumpy and bumpy conditions remain, but in general it was just happiness to be getting to parts of the mountain that I have missed much of this season. The grooming crew reached pretty far up into the lower portion of the Big Bend Bowl making the return to Sherwood easy and creamy.

Under the Sherwood Chair on Sherwood Face conditions were again soft with small moguls for me to use when turning right or left. Outer Limits and Mountain View made me think of Creme Fraiche ( just a wonderful smooth and silky surface perfect for making wide carving turns). Scotty’s Beam was even enjoyable although not groomed overnight if offered up small soft moguls. Bobby’s gave up more smooth spring snow for wide carving turns.

The following is a quote from Mark F. , who has not missed a day at Alpine this year, “That was my best run on Wolverine Bowl EVER”.

Tomorrow should be a repeat of today.

Enjoy your day,

Andy

  1. Not only did today have the best groomed run in Wolverine EVER…I also announced that my first run from top to bottom Sunspot-RockGarden-Charity-RooRidge was the best groomed run of the season. The corduroy was just perfect at 9am this morning. The afternoon corn harvest was also fantastic. I’m looking forward to day 100 tomorrow.
