Overcast skies greeted me this morning as I peeked out my window. It looked as though it would be a flat light morning with wet snow possibly falling within a few hours. The temperature was above freezing. I almost did not dress for skiing, but in the end my need for fresh air won.
By the time Summit Chair opened the sky had cleared. Blue covered the area above leaving many of us scratching our heads wondering what happened to the incoming storm. It was just delayed. As of 1:30 this afternoon the roads are wet and I would say it is raining lightly at the elevation of the Truckee River. The forecast is calling for colder temperatures and snow tonight.
While the sun was shining this morning I thoroughly enjoyed the excellent grooming job that Alpine completed overnight. Snow conditions off Summit Chair were exceptional. On top of the wonderful grooming job there were very few people at the ski area this morning.
These conditions allowed me to let loose and make big carved turns at high speed from top to bottom. We were skiing on the main runs which included Alpine Bowl, Wolverine, Sunspot, Terry’s Return, Dance Floor, Yellow, Red Ridge, and Bobby’s. I had to leave but a little bird told me that Sherwood was good just after 11. It was warm enough and the sun had been out long enough to soften the south facing slopes, especially the groomed runs. It was a fun morning.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
Lifts closing right and left this afternoon. I guess we got the better part of the day!
I always hear the call of the mountains, but unfortunately for those of us who don’t have the luxury of retirement, some work calls can’t be ignored. I’ll be out again Saturday – missing two days in a row – what would Bobble say about my priorities! Sad face sad face sad face
