Hot Hot Hot

It was almost a short sleeve ski day at Alpine. It certainly was a day to dress as lightly as possible. The early morning temperature along the crest reached 48 degrees. I see the temperature at the base at 10:30 this morning was 59 degrees.

Our first few groomed runs were pleasant enough, soft and easy to edge. Sunspot, Dance Floor, and Wolverine made me smile. Alpine Bowl was more firm. As it was skied it became slippery as the top layer of corduroy was shaved off.

Off piste under Alpine Bowl Chair and heading into Terry’s Return where a groomer had not spent anytime last night was horrible. Frozen skier ruts existed from the day before. It did freeze overnight leaving areas in the morning shade truly awful. As the sun moved higher in the sky and the morning progress slopes such as Wolverine under Idiot’s Delight soften and the enjoyment level increased. Lower down on Dance Floor, the depth of the snow increased which often happens with spring conditions. Death cookies covered the slope on Werner’s Schuss but the surface was not too firm. It was very mixed all morning. We hit Ridge Run and Bobby’s which were nice and soft late morning.

More rocks are showing, or just hiding under the surface so take care this weekend. There will be ice in the morning Saturday, as there was today, on the shaded slopes. Stay on the sunny slopes for the first hour. Be super careful off piste with the melting snow and increasing number of obstacles.
Ski and board safely and keep you mask on.

Enjoy you day,

Andy
