A Beautiful Morning

Blue sky overhead and cold overnight temperatures created a beautiful winter skier pack surface. Other than my first run, which was on the groomed surface of Dance Floor where Alpine blew snow overnight leaving a very firm and unfriendly surface, my day was spent off piste.

We spent all morning winding our way through troughs and over the top of soft moguls. I totally enjoyed Yellow Trail, Werner’s Schuss, Charity, Gunners Knob, Chicken Leg, and Fall Line all morning long. Lines today were minimal. It did warm up to 40 degrees later in the morning, but the short days are keeping the snow in good condition.

Looking up toward the summit was frustrating as it is so beautiful and appeared to be begging for my tracks. Looks are not always everything as the depth may still be to thin for safe skiing.

Hoping for another storm soon that will allow opening of the upper mountain.

Enjoy Your Day

Andy

  1. Hi Mark and Andy! “John Snow” from Unofficial Sugar Bowl here. I just recently found out you’re writing again. I love Alpine! It was the first resort in Tahoe where I learned so much about powder, off-piste skiing, hiking, and my introduction to the backcountry. Would love to make turns with you someday this season at Alpine, get in touch! I have half-offs for Sugar if you want to check it out too. 🙂

p.s. our lift to the top has been open all season 😛
