I realized that I never included the point forecast for Alpine Meadows in yesterday’s report. That’s okay because it looks significantly better this morning. It’s been a long time since we have seen a forecast showing several days of snow ahead.( Tip: It was not this ski season.) It motivated me to do this quick post for a Friday morning.
So here it is, the point forecast at Alpine Meadows. This is for the top of Roundhouse elevation:
That is not looking so bad. It won’t open new terrain, except perhaps the Roo and Meadow. But it will do a lot to get some obstacles covered and freshen things up. Keep in mind that some obstacles will just be hidden and quite ready to grab your skis or board! Here’s a look at the newly improved snow level forecast:
Hopefully we can get this as all snow. It will be wet and heavy, but that is exactly what we need right now. It most definitely won’t be a Woo Hoo Powder Dayā¢ Saturday or Sunday.
PROS
- The snowfall forecast looks more significant and the R word has been removed from the forecast.
- Gold Coast has been added to the schedule over at the Valley With No Name. This should relieve a lot of pressure on the ever popular Alpine Meadows.
- The younger teams are on hold for another weekend, which will relieve some pressure on the available terrain and lifts.
CONS
- The younger teams are on hold for the weekend. This is a bad thing for families looking to get their kids on skis. It’s also a bad thing for those coaches that want to get to work.
- Winds could be an issue. The point forecast above shows the potential for some strongish winds that could affect lift operations.
It remains to be seen as to what effect the regional stay at home order will have on crowds this weekend. Several friends and acquaintances have reported that nearby AirBnB’s have already reloaded for the weekend…
