Sneak Preview

The mountain is looking white this morning. Wet snow piled up at the higher elevations yesterday, adding a little more to the covering we received from the last small storm.

From a distance the upper bowls look like one could ski in them, but a closer look with my binoculars changed my mind. Rock bands I could see from a distance made me think it might still be a little too thin at this point in time.

November 25th is supposed to be opening day. My fingers are crossed that they are making enough snow, along with what has fallen from nature, to begin spinning one or more lifts next week. Snow guns have been blasting away on Treeline Cirque which would be the first lift to greet skiers.

A photo of the mountain taken this morning is attached along with a photo of the bottom of the Squaw Creek Run that we viewed a couple of days ago where they are making snow at Squaw. It appeared that there might be enough snow to ski down on a path as wide as one grooming machine might lay down. In my mind it would be too narrow to accept skiers.

I have also attached a photo of the interior of the Alpine Meadows lodge with table set up for social distancing. It will be interesting to see how it works out.

Let us all pray for a little more snow in the next week or so and for virus cases to drop to keep all of us healthy and skiing.

Enjoy Your Day

  1. Those tables are pretty well situated Andy! I think we’re going to have to bundle up this year, and not plan on warming up as often or as long this year! That’s ok, I’m too old to arrive for the first lift and ski to the very last (only stopping for comfort breaks!) heck back in those days we carried Cliff bars or bagels in our pockets (maybe a flask)! Remember those days? Ha! You still probably have them!

  2. Those indoor tables will not be available as long as we remain in the purple tier…as that would be indoor dining. Things will be different this year until people figure out their personal responsibility to wear a mask, keep a distance, wash hands frequently and avoid gatherings. Thanksgiving will be an interesting test of people’s willingness to adapt…
