Walking on the coast of Mendocino

Hello Friends,

Warm, even hot, weather in Tahoe. Early morning on the lake has been excellent with mostly flat water. Winds seem to be picking up in the afternoon which is rather normal for this time of year. I have been walking or hiking and doing a little mountain biking in the area with attempts to stay away from people. Thus, most of my time is not terrible interesting.

Paddle board and kayak have been out on the lake a few times. Early morning, the earlier the better, is the best as the water is flat and not churned up by boats racing around.

We snuck out of town for a few days last week and headed for Mendocino. We were so lucky to have clear blue skies for all three days on the coast. The cute little town was partially open with just a few visitors wandering around enjoying outdoor seating and ocean views. Walking on the bluff trail we spotted a whale just off shore along and a number of shorebirds that were nesting on numerous rock outcropping.

We noted, if our identification was correct, Thick billed Murrs, Ostercatchers, Cormorants, and a Blue Heron among many others.A short trip to the Cabrillo Lighthouse and a pleasant walk along the Big River filled out day. We took a short drive through the Anderson Valley to check out some tall redwood trees and stop at a winery (most were closed, but a few had tasting opportunities in an outdoor setting with plenty of social distancing.

One thing that was much appreciated during out stay was that everyone we came across, especially in the town of Mendocino was wearing a mask and keep their distance.

Wildflowers are out over 7000 feet with higher elevation taking there turn now or in a few days. It is time to get out hiking even in this heat.

Real Estate in the area appears to be going crazy with property being snapped up in record time. Apparently many of you are deciding to move to Tahoe or at least have a place you can run to during pandemic times. Many homes are selling at or over asking price in as little as one or two days. Inventory is disappearing as soon as it appears.

I am just listing a single family home within the River Run Development at the entrance to Alpine Meadows. This home has a river view, but is not on the river. There is less noise from Hwy.89 and the deck at the River Ranch with this location. Nice mountain and forest views. 4 bedroom 3.5 bath plus a nice size 2 car garage. Low snow location, private snow removal, pool, spa, sauna, and spa shared with the rest of the development. Asking $1,350,000. Available for showings with an appointment.

Enjoy Your Day.

Andy

  1. So strange to have you post about “my neck of the woods” or at least my county. Yes, the locals, especially on the coast have sounded very “passionate” about masks. If you haven’t gone home yet (although I assume that you have), there are some other great favorite spots that I could communicate.

  2. Nice report. My mother lives in Boonville, and when I went down in May everyone was already all masked up. And what was interesting was that all the young folks (20s, 30s) were 100%, too.
