Walk To An Alpine Lake

Hello Friends,

It has been cool and windy in Tahoe the last few days, but the air seems to be warming this afternoon with dropping winds. The weather has been more conducive to hiking than paddling on the lake. This morning we hoofed up to a small beautiful lake in Alpine Meadows that is still surrounded by snow fields long and wide enough for a quick ski for those who might want to carry their equipment up to the ridge line. The lake is filled with clear cold snow water, perhaps still to cold for a dip.

The Five Lakes Trail is getting a lot of use. Cars seem to be filling both sides of Alpine Meadows Road indicating heavy traffic on the trail. Commercial rafting on the river between Tahoe City and River Ranch has opened. Horses are back in the Alpine Meadows Stables.

The paved bike trail between Squaw Valley and Tahoe City is getting plenty of use. Boats are back in the lake being tied to buoys for the summer. Stores are open and restaurants are serving on outdoor patios. It appears summer is moving into full swing mode. Real Estate sales appear to be on fire. Homes are being snatched up quickly in many areas. To view the current home listings in Alpine Meadows click below.

  1. Hey Andy,

Please be careful about mentioning a certain small body of water lest it start attracting trailhead amounts of vehicles similar to that of the Five Lakes.
