The Deadline Approaches…Plus, One More Change?

Taking a brief look at the Ikon pass website this morning, the countdown timer reminded me that I only have 2 days and 15 hours to renew our Ikon passes for the best discount. For those of us with the full Ikon pass, that is a $200 discount. As we have reported before, we have already committed to the idea of buying passes, we just have not yet done it. Today…maybe.

Nobody can really be sure what will happen if you miss the deadline. There have been times where the deadline was simply extended a couple of more weeks, times where the price bumped up by only a small amount, and times where you have to do a full face palm. As the old Clint Eastwood line goes “You’ve gotta ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?”

An Unannounced Change To The Adventure Assurance Program?

If you are reading Unofficial Alpine, your pass from the 19/20 ski season was very likely well used. Most of our readers are the type that are committed to skiing or riding every season, even if conditions are not ideal. But it is possible that some of you were waiting for that ultimate spring break trip, and did not manage to use your pass before March 14th. It looks like you could be in for a nice surprise.

The Storm Skiing Journal is reporting that Alterra has quietly adopted a 4th change to the terms of the Adventure Assurance program. According to the IkonPass.com website, the “Zero Day” guarantee would allow you to roll over your unused 20/21 pass to the 21/22 season, as long as you make the decision by April 11, 2021. What is not mentioned is that Alterra is also applying this retroactively to holders of 19/20 season passes. It’s only fair for us to send you to the Storm Skiing Journal article for the details.

Just the sub heading on that post cracks me up…you might have to read some of Stuart’s other posts about irate pass holders to fully understand it.

It’s definitely a strong move by Alterra. Previously we reported that Vail resorts is only offering 80% of value to holders of an unused 19/20 Epic Pass. Offering a 100% credit leaves very little for Karen, or “Angry Ski Bro” to complain about.

We found no specific wording about applying the Zero Day guarantee to your 19/20 pass on the Ikon Pass site this morning. We would love to hear from any of you that either had success, or not, for receiving the credit on your unused pass from last season.

  1. Thanks for catching the “quiet” change regarding last year’s pass rollover (maybe). Not our situation, but we have a friend who was injured and got zero days.

  2. Hello
what i read is that I don’t need to do anything for my zero day credit for 2019-20.
Was I suppose to do something??

    1. Honestly I do not know. I used my pass more than 100 days this season, so I will not be asking for a credit. It seems like I would get in touch with the Ikon Pass people and ask that question…and let us know what happened. 🙂
