Up Prosser Creek

The parking lot for the Emigrant Trail north of Truckee was overflowing yesterday afternoon. Mountain bikers and hikers seem to be filling the trail. I was there to walk to the west of Hwy. 89 across the highway from the parking area. There is a pleasant trail with not much elevation gain or loss that follows Prosser Creek to the west.

The trail winds through a forested area, often well above the creek traversing steep slopes along the way. It dips down to the river before rising again further along the trail. We walked to the steel bridge shown in the photo that is about 1.5 miles from the parking area. The trail continues after crossing a dirt road at the bridge. You might have to look for the continuation as it enters the forest again.

Prosser Creek is running full steam as our snow pack begins to melt at a faster pace with generally warming temperatures. We met a few people on mountain bikes that had started from Tahoe Donner. The trail is not used as much as the Emigrant Trail which makes it more enjoyable for me.

A few flowers were blooming and some trees were showing bright green leaves growing on their branches.Rain, wind, and snow are expected for the next couple of days. It was extremely windy last night and it has been raining off and on all day.

Restaurants are opening in Tahoe City with limited seating. Other retail stores are also opening. They are all limiting the number of people in their space to allow for social distances.

Enjoy your day,
Andy

    1. Well we can’t just have people posting pictures of everything, if you know what I mean. But I would be happy to have a guest post from you Glenn. Email me.
