Winter Heading Toward Summer

The removal of a dirty mountain of snow piled up from parking lot snow removal in Squaw Valley would normally indicate the end of ski season. Obviously the end of lift operation has ended and so the pile of snow is being cut down. There is plenty of snow sitting on upper elevations for those venturing into the backcountry even though it is not recommended at this point in time. Temperatures seem to be warming allowing us to drop some clothing for certain activities that seem to be acceptable for required spacing for those not sharing a household. Riding a bike, walking (some lower elevation non-paved trails are beginning to dry up), paddle boarding and kayaking would seem to acceptable as they are normally single person activities with six foot spacing easily accomplished, and golf. Placer County has just announced that golf is acceptable within the county. Tennis and pickleball are also acceptable activities if played with household members. It is nice to see some relaxing of regulations in our area.
I have not been writing much lately as there really does not seem to be much to report. I would like to thank the Ikon group for the reduction in the price of some ski passes in recognition of the shorten season. I think this was a commendable gesture.
Although it is more difficult to show homes to buyers during this time period, and sales of property are certainly slower than normal for most of us, there is a slice of society that still seems to be purchasing. Below is a summary of closed and pending sales for the February 24 to April 15 time period for Martis Camp (a high end Truckee community) as provided by Martis Camp Realty.

Sold Properties
9 homes closed representing $47,057,500 in volume
4 lots closed representing $4,235,000 in volume
13 total property closings since February 24, 2020 with a total volume of $51,292,500

Pending Sales
4 homes representing $22,488,000 in list price volume
2 lots representing $3,390,000 in list price volume
Total closings and in escrow properties during this period – $77,170,500

Looking forward to normalcy

Enjoy your day,

Andy

  1. Hi Andy, the homes sold and pending average over $5 million each…do you know if the purchasers are for home base, vacation homes or maybe AB&B investments .. just interested in housing issues right now…

  2. Hey Andy,
Always good to what’s up on your end of The Lake. What do you think about some of the resorts (mainly in Europe and I think Scandinavia perhaps) that are “farming” their snow to keep it usable for next winter? Might give them a boost on at least the lower slopes
