If you haven’t heard, Truckee and Eastern Nevada County have now been declared as a “COVID-19 Hotspot”. The last published number, with any credibility, is that Tahoe Forest Hospital has seen 46 cases so far and has most of its ICU beds filled. So as we’ve been saying since March 15th, it really is time to hunker down at home. Although we did get a good shot of new snow this week, for the most part it’s already baked. We’re advising that you pursue some virtual skiing for now.
Our family is a little bit behind when it comes to gaming technology. The new Nintendo Switch has some good offerings, but is virtually sold out everywhere. There is one outfit selling complete systems on eBay for $499, but I am not that desperate. We never bought into the Wii or PS4 generation either. Oops. We’re stuck in classic mode, with a recently refurbished N64, which only offers 1080 Snowboarding.
The last great ski game we owned was Jonny Moseley Mad Trix for PS2, and what a game that was. I still have the soundtrack stuck in my head whenever I go skiing. Besides pushing the boundaries of mogul skiing in the Olympics, Mad Trix stands as Jonny’s best, or most embarrassing, accomplishment, depending on whom you believe.
I was also a big fan of Ski Stunt Simulator, which was a big hit online back around 2006. Sadly it is no longer available in a working form, as most people have moved away from Java programming. So this morning I went on the hunt for a new online ski experience (at least until I can find a Switch at retail pricing).
My favorite ski game for today is Snowcross Stunts from Crazy Games. The learning curve is super shallow, with few controls needed, and the game play is fast. There’s also not much in the way of pop-ups or advertising. Here’s some quick screenshots to give you a preview.
refreshing post – thanks!
OK, I listened to the soundtrack and saw video.. and I’m a little concerned… Love, Mom
Our family has not got out the ancient We Ski & Snowboard……yet. Yeah that’s the one my son always whipped me at when we raced, but instead he’s got me building (I should say “assisting”) a ridiculously complicated world in Minecraft. Now if I could only more of a benefit than a liability. I actually think he gets a kick out of saving my a__ when I’m surrounded at night by zombies, skeletons, and very large spiders….
