Keeping Busy

A number of locals continue to make use of the Tahoe City Cross Country Ski Center as they are still grooming a number of miles of trails on a daily basis. I went out for the 3rd time this week trying to get the hang of skate skiing. After each visit I am pretty beat. We traveled about 8 or 9 miles the other day at a slow pace which was a combination of skate skiing and striding.

As I have mentioned before, it hurts to look up the ski area which is closed for all activity and stare at smooth slopes packed with snow. Locals are hiking up to the Field of Dreams and Munchkins areas. They are leaving plenty of tracks on the way down. It looks good from a distance. I met a few friends that seem to be content with the Shelter In Place orders as it leaves them with the backcountry in Alpine Meadows to themselves.

This morning the sky is a combination of gray and blue. A little sunshine is poking through the cloud cover. It is a little warmer today. I noticed some sprinkles falling which were in the form of rain and not snow. It is supposed to get warmer beginning tomorrow.

The Truckee River Bike Trail is clear from the Village at Squaw to Tahoe City for walking and biking. Yesterday afternoon we walked a few miles on the Legacy Trail in Truckee between Glenshire and the regional park. There were a good number of other people walking the trail, but everyone was adhering to the separation  rule.

A number of local companies are doing what they can to assist with the need for items to help combat the virus. Old Trestle Distillery in Truckee has converted its operation to producing hand sanitizer using their ability to create high test alcohol.

A few words about the real estate market in our area. There is obviously not a lot going on at the moment in terms of open houses and home showings as none owner visitors are scarce. However interest appears to be remaining level. A number of my clients are sitting back waiting for the financial markets to calm down and for the virus situation to show signs of abating. I have not run into anyone who is in a panic to sell or fishing around for desperate sellers. In Alpine Meadows there are only three properties showing for sale. One is in escrow contingent upon the sale of another property that is also in escrow.

Here are a few statistics for the entire California side of North Lake Tahoe and the greater Truckee areas beginning March 1, 2020. I thought using March 1, 2020 as a starting date would give one an idea of the movement continuing in our market even with the current situation. The following statistics are for single family homes. I did not include condominiums, land,  or commercial sales. There are currently 94 residential properties pending sale and a total of 150 pending sales in all categories.

New listings …………………………… …………… 28
Pending Sales ………………………………………. 34
Sold …………………………………………………….    52
