A Visit to Broccoli Tree

It was partly cloudy on the mountain today with a cool beginning and a warming trend in the afternoon. Another light dusting of snow dropped from the heavens overnight. Each little bit is helping the surface condition and making skiing feel more like real skiing. Of course we need more to cover the firmness below the soft new surface, but we encountered less firmness today than in the past. There were fresh tracks to be made today and clusters of new snow deep enough to make us believe we were skiing powder, at least it was soft under foot.

D7, Wolverine under Idiot’s Delight, High Yellow, Scott Meadow, and Gentian Gully were my favorites. Winds from the weekend appear to have blown snow into gullies and mogul troughs making them appear to be soft. Standard Run off Scott Chair looked to be soft, but there was plenty of hard rubble to trip one up. A visit to Broccoli Tree has been all to infrequent this year, so seeing it today was a pleasure.

Enjoy your day,

Andy

  1. It really was a great day out there, number 101 of the season for me. It’s too bad you missed the first 30 minutes of the day where there was an inch or two of new snow on Sunspot and Terry’s for the smoothest turns ever. Runs of the day for me were South Peril, Red Ridge and Lower Red Ridge, and Gentian Gully, of course. I needed to do Gentian several laps in a row to make sure it was good.
