A cool breeze was blowing over the ridge this morning as I proved that skiing off the edge of the groomed road leading from the top of Summit Chair into Alpine Bowl (Tower 20) is possible, but perhaps not advisable. The small moguls and associated rubble was frozen solid. I proved it could be done, but others may have wondered if there was a point to this lunacy. There was a point to my idiocy. A need to ski off the beautifully groomed runs, at least once.
A photo is attached that I took at the edge of Expert Shortcut. We looked over the edge at the very large moguls that were certainly frozen and decided to enjoy the view. A beautiful flat lake one direction and smooth looking slopes the other direction with a caution sign in between. We did venture off the groomed areas at Sherwood. The skiers right of Sherwood Chair offers some small moguls that turned soft around 10:30. Keep your eyes pealed for rocks that are beginning to show there faces off piste and on piste at Sherwood. The east wind blowing at the top of Summit kept the upper slopes firm most of the day.
A photo of the beach in Tahoe City says a lot. People, with their children, are showing up at the beach with this warm weather. Others are on the bike trail (wearing a bit of clothing to keep warm). Skiers are on the hill, especially on the weekends as there is still plenty of snow on the front side of Alpine.
There is a new listing in Alpine Meadows that might interest you. It is located on a level sunny lot in the Juniper Mt. Subdivision. The property has 4 bedrooms 3.5 baths and a large 2 car garage. It is available for viewing most days. On the other side of the scale in Alpine is a small 2 bedroom 1 bath condominium near the slopes.
Enjoy your day
