Family Time

Ski and skate week is underway in Tahoe. This holiday tends to bring families out to enjoy winter sports. It is noticeable on the slopes at Alpine Meadows. Young children fill the slopes, some taking group lessons and others leading or following their parents down slopes of varying difficulty.

Weather conditions continue to be spring-like with cool mornings and warmer afternoons. Groomed areas have been excellent in the mornings with smooth corduroy greeting skiers each day. Unfortunately much of the off piste is frozen solid, at least in the mornings. We did enjoy a few spring turns on the groomed areas of Sherwood before reaching out toward Sherwood Face and South Face where soft moguls greeted us. Bare earth and small rocks are showing up on the south facing slopes, but we discovered some nice lines in the 10:30 to 11:30 time period.

Outer Limits, off the Lakeview Chair , was yummy. Bobby’s, off the Scott Chair provided good spring turns. It is perfect weather for teaching young children to ski as it is warm and sunny. If spring turns are not your thing then perhaps a ride on your bike along the plowed bike trail between Squaw Valley and Tahoe City is in your future. Dress warmly and spin those peddles for awhile in the middle of the day.

Enjoy your day,

Andy

  1. We also found some great off piste skiing in the Outer Outer zone after lunch today. In the department of “we skied it so you don’t have to do so”…Tower 19 was a no go today and neither was Chicken Leg.

  2. At Squaw today, skiers left top of Siberia chair fenced off restricting direct access to lift line bowl. Perhaps some folks faltering on first turn dropping in off ridge line? Some good turns below but also some scraped areas. Shirley scratchy too. Edges of runs off Red Dog were better. Middle of last week conditions were much better.
