Saturday was busy as Mark noted in an earlier report. I stayed away and took care of some client’s real estate needs and went for a nice long walk. Sunday was another day that kept me off the hill. Winds were just more than I cared to fight, especially with a number of lifts shut down.
This morning the sky was bright, temperatures in the twenties, and a stiff wind at the higher elevations. Summit was closed, but other lifts were running. These cold temperatures and stiff breezes are keeping the non-groomed trails unpleasant. Groomed runs were pretty good. The best were off Roundhouse. I skied until noon.
Nothing that I found off piste had softened by the noon hour. We took one ride up Alpine Bowl Chair where the winds were not overwhelming. However, the snow in the bowl was much less than desirable. Solid ice just off the edge of the road between Summit and Alpine Bowl and very firm rough terrain in the bowl. It did not appear that the bowl had been groomed overnight. One run was enough for us today. Yellow, Charity, Dance Floor, and Werner’s were all fast and enjoyable. This is where the best snow could be found in the morning.
Sherwood was firm, and I assume scraped off as the morning progressed. Outer Limits offered firm snow that held an edge. I am sure the groomed off Scott was the same, but we did not venture up Scott today.
There was not a large crowd skiing today. Those that were on the hill seemed happy and were enjoying themselves. I guess I am afraid I was getting bored skiing the same runs day after day. I need to get off piste soon. If it does not snow soon, and the long range forecast is not very promising, it will have to warm up to create spring skiing off piste so that I can get me off the groom.
In the meantime I will just take advantage of the beautiful weather and enjoy the views.
Attached is a photo I took Saturday night of the full moon hiding behind some clouds that did not produce any snow and a photo of the unfinished White Wolf Lift which may have the gondola connection next to it in the near future. I thought it would be nice to have a pre-gondola photo of the mountain to remind me of the rather unspoiled beauty of the area at a later date.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
Gondola connection??

Nice report Andy. I skied the wrong part of the day Sunday. I got 5 runs in utilizing Subway, Meadow and the Magic Tube. Apparently I should have gone skiing later yesterday when more terrain opened. Today was my first day off from skiing in 22 days…still had FOMO.
Great pic, the moon has been spectacular the last few nights!!
