Single digits met us this morning as the sun rose in the east. In addition winds howled out of the east.
Late yesterday afternoon, as my 49ers were blowing the Super Bowl, a couple of inches of light snow fell onto a very hard surface. I missed the first few runs of joyfulness when 2 inches of snow covered a smooth, but firm groomed surface according to my friends who skied Bobby’s Run early, claiming it was pretty good.
By the time I hit the slopes around 10:30 most of the light new snow had been scraped to the side. Windy, cold, and a hard smooth surface greeted me. Above me was a clear blue sky. Looking at the lake from the top of Sherwood Chair, I could see whitecaps churning up the surface. Plumes of snow rose from the ridge tops. Yes, Summit was closed.
Off piste you ask? I would not recommend going there today, and most likely not tomorrow either. Rough under foot is a pleasant way of describing the off piste conditions today. Of course, one could find a spot here and one there that had accumulated enough of the wind blown dusting to make a few soft turns, but these areas were scarce.
Today was like a fruit cake someone sent to you. Your pleased to have gotten the gift, but most people do not like them. I was happy to be on the slope, but it was not all that tasty.
Enjoy your day,
Andy
