Variable Conditions

One inch of snow fell overnight according to the official Alpine Meadows Ski Report. It was wet when it fell and perhaps a little drizzle fell later. Anyway, I was told the morning skiing was not all that good – firm in places and crusty in others. I was glad not to have had the time to hit the mountain in the early hours.

When I finally ventured out of the locker room the sky was a mixed picture of blue and gray. My guess is the temperature was above 40 degrees. A little wind was blowing at the top of Summit, Scott and Lakeview. The snow consistency had turned from firm to a lovely soft spring surface. My timing was impeccable.

We turned with gusto down Yellow Trail, Bobby’s Run, Ridge Run, Scotty’s Beam, Mountain View, and Outer Limits. I was told Sherwood was firm in the morning, but it softened in the afternoon. Wolverine was a bit firm as the groomed area had been scraped off, but it still skied nicely.

For those of you heading up this afternoon the roads are dry and the sky is cloudy, but it does not looking threatening.

Enjoy your day,

Andy
