A small little storm is pushing north and east of us tonight and tomorrow. If we’re lucky, a flake or two may fall at Alpine Meadows tonight or tomorrow morning. Winds are forecast for 25 mph Saturday with gusts to 55mph. That probably won’t be enough to shut down Summit, depending on the direction. It may lead to some areas getting some fresh deposits from this week’s snow. Temperatures are also forecast to be a bit lower than normal tomorrow. By Sunday, things return to normal…and by later in the week, we will see spring conditions again.
In the longer term, things continue to look encouraging…if you like corn and spring skiing. The MJO has gone pretty neutral and stalled out, leaving the PNA Index as one of the more reliable indicators of upcoming storm activity. Here’s the latest PNA Index forecast. We’re not just a little positive…we are in a very positive position.
The 6-10 day and the 8-14 day model precip forecasts continue to look dry. BA at OpenSnow.com has dangled the hope for a storm in the March 6th-8th range. He is obviously way more qualified in this stuff than me…but I can’t find much corroboration from the other guys.
For now, there’s still plenty winter snow for the weekend before things get warm again. The mantra this year continues to be “Learn To Love Corn.”
