It Was The First Powder-ish Day Of The Season

More skiers have probably been on Art’s Knob this week than all of last season! Photo by Unpossible
Hello Skiers,
A nice new dusting of snow fell overnight, roughly 4 inches at the base and a foot mid-mountain, and the flood gates opened.  The chance for a powder turn brought a good crowd to Alpine this morning.  A real line formed at the base of Roundhouse and another rather large line formed at Treeline.  Skiers and boarders were anxious to hit the short steep slopes quickly accessible from the top of Treeline.  New equipment can have growing pains, and that appears to be what occurred this morning as operation of the new lift was delayed.  Summit was not operating which created more of reason to try the new lift.
Our slopes were cut up quickly as hungry winter enthusiasts raced around the trails destroying innocent virgin snow fields.  It went more quicky then normal do to limited early season operations.  I saw plenty of smiles this morning as those arriving for the first time this season gazed up at a mountain with packed slopes.
The snow consistency this morning was best on the upper 2/3rds of Roundhouse.  The lower we skied, the heavier the snow.  The sun popped through an early gray and snowy sky, warming our air into the 40’s, which further consolidated the snow pack and quickly melted what fell on lower elevations in the Tahoe area.  This is Tahoe and conditions change quickly.
Smile! Winter has arrived and skiing is darn good for this time of year.
Enjoy your day,
Andy

  1. Today was one of the best days of my life so far. Not only was the skiing pretty darn great, I got home in time to see the 49’rs pull off a big win over “The Aints”. Life is good – go 9’rs.
