The Snow Stoke Is Building

  • by

It was difficult to get too excited about yesterday’s little disturbance that left 4 inches of snow overnight. In fact, some noted that all it did was interrupt a wonderful corn cycle. It will take  a few more days of thaw and freeze cycles to get that corn back – and no thaw is expected before Monday.

But all skiing and riding is good. You just have to find it. Clearly the groomers will benefit from a coating of fresh snow. It got scraped around a bit today, but with a few groomers passes and some time to let it bond, there will be some nice groomers for the weekend crowd. Low angle powder stashes with smooth terrain underneath may ski well too. Park riders will also benefit from some new snow to soften up landings.

But the awesome news is that after weeks of depressing forecasts, the long term indicators are beginning to come together again to produce a snowier pattern for us about a week or so out. BA at OpenSnow.com has all of the details so far…but the condensed version is below. All of the models shift the PNA Index to negative over the next week. And just about all of the models push the MJO into Phases 2 and 3 over the next two weeks. These are good signs for us.

Negative is good!

Currently in Phase 1, Phase 2 and 3 are good for us.

BA has made a lot of comparisons to this season and 2 seasons ago. Remember we had almost 2 months of dry spell followed by 500 inches of snow in late winter and spring. Don’t give up yet!
