New Snow

Hello Skiers and Riders,

Very light snow is dropping from the sky late this afternoon.  Sun was shining this morning after mother nature dumped a total of 4 inches of snow on our mountain yesterday afternoon.  Now we are getting useless snow showers mixed with very cold air.

I had to check my teeth after skiing this morning.  4 inches of lovely white snow over a solidly frozen base can cause one to loose fillings.  The early morning groomed runs were better today as the new snow mixed nicely with the more firm base.  Later in the day slick patches appeared as the softer top surface was pushed into piles by skiers and riders.  However, there are always some good things to say about any day where new snow sits waiting to be marked upper by powder hungry humans.

The lower the slope angle the better on a day like today.  Scott Meadows offered some soft turns.  We hopscotched Power Line finding some soft pockets between glacier like ice.  Sliding between trees off the Sherwood Chair was delightful.  However, it was a nightmare skiing in the trees next to Seldom Slides.  Under the Alpine Bowl Chair was not bad as there seemed to be enough new snow to cover the ice.

Enjoy your day,

Andy

Editor’s Note: Andy’s report is somewhat different than Alpine Meadow’s report on Fakebook. They posted this picture of Errol Kerr this morning. When questioned in the comments, they gave a vague response of “Most of these pictures were taken on Roundhouse early this morning.” I think I am going to go with Andy’s version being a bit more accurate!

Taken this morning with 4 inches of new snow? Maybe someone left a snow gun on all night.....

  1. Good report. Andy’s right on the low angle being the best – there you could pretend to ski powder while trying to levitate. Alpine’s desperation marketing was very entertaining – thanks for pointing that out. I rendered my opinion that it was NOT a powder day but it looked SO good to see all that untracked snow.

  2. I have nothing but respect for Kerr. Seen him ski and the man is a excellent skier and representative of Alpine. Having said that, this photo is hard to believe in context of this latest snow fall we got. In this day and age I suspect some photoshop techniques were applied in this photo. Not saying it was misrepresentation but it is a disservice to the general public that see that photo and believe Tahoe that picked up more than the generous 4″ that was reported….
